TORRANCE, California: Honda is recalling some 725,000 SUVs and pick-up trucks due to faulty hoods that could open while vehicles are moving.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on 17th January, 2022.
The recall is being done because certain models of Honda vehicles have a "hood that opens while driving that can obstruct the driver's view and increase the risk of a crash," said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Those vehicles being recalled are the the Honda Passport 2019, Honda Pilot 2016 to 2019, and Honda Ridgeline 2017.
According to the NHTSA, the hood latch on select vehicles may become damaged and separate from the hood, resulting in it opening up on the driver.
"Gaps in the front seal between the hood and grill allow for air entry, potentially resulting in hood vibration at highway speeds," said the American Honda Motor Company.
These hood vibrations could form stress fractures along the hood latch and separate it from the hood.
Dealers will either repair the hood latch or replace the hood for free, if required.
