KARACHI, Pakistan - On Monday, local health officials reported the successful conclusion of a clinical trial of Chinese traditional herbal medication to treat Covid-19 as Pakistan enters the fifth wave of the pandemic caused by the Omicron form.
Jinhua Qinggan Granules (JHQG), Chinese medicine developed by Juxiechang (Beijing) Pharmaceutical Co Ltd, is already being utilized to treat Covid-19 patients in China.
"Since it was tried on patients with different variants of Covid-19, we expect it to be effective on Omicron as on other variants," According to Professor Iqbal Chaudhry, head of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Science (ICCBS) in Karachi, where the experiments were held.
The trials were conducted on 300 patients who were treated at home. They would work on mild to moderate Covid-19 cases, according to Dr. Raza Shah, the trials' chief investigator, who added that the success rate was around 82.67 percent.
The trials were approved by Pakistan's Drug Regulatory Authority.
