NAB law amendment will protect white-collar criminals, destroy the country

Khan stated that his party would challenge the recent amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAB) in the Supreme Court.
A joint session of parliament passed three bills earlier this month, including electoral reforms and the accountability law.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - The incumbent rulers should be imprisoned for "shamelessly" amending the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws, according to PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday.

Khan stated that his party would challenge the recent amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAB) in the Supreme Court.

A joint session of parliament passed three bills earlier this month, including electoral reforms and the accountability law. The NAB Amendment Bill was amended to prevent the "misuse of law for political engineering and victimization of opponents."

The changes were criticized by Imran and his party, with the PTI chairman claiming that the amendment would destroy the country by shielding white-collar criminals from prosecution.

In today's media address, Imran continued his criticism, saying the assembly session where the amendment was passed was a "mockery and a joke with the country." "Those who voted for the NAB amendments should be imprisoned for their shamelessness," he added.

He hoped the courts would take notice of the development, adding that such moves would be detrimental to the country if allowed.

Imran stated that laws enacted in the country should not be specific to any one person but rather to the collective whole.
