NAYPYIDAW, Myanmar - Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's deposed leader, has been moved from a secret detention facility to solitary confinement in a prison compound in the capital, Naypyidaw, according to a spokesman for the country's military government.
According to Zaw Min Tun, "in accordance with criminal laws... [Aung San Suu Kyi] has been in solitary confinement in prison" since Wednesday.
When the army seized power from her elected government on February 1, 2021, Aung San Suu Kyi was arrested. She was initially detained at her residence in the capital but was later transferred to at least one other location. She has been detained at an undisclosed location for the past year, widely assumed to be on a military base.
That location was reportedly a house where she had nine people to assist her with her living arrangements and a dog that was a gift from one of her sons.
According to a source familiar with her transfer, the 77-year-old "acts like before and is in good spirits."
"She is used to dealing with any situation calmly," an anonymous source told the press.
