DHAKA, Bangladesh - The BNP has given the government an ultimatum to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is being treated at Evercare Hospital, and send her abroad for medical treatment.

The ultimatum was issued by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during a rally in Dhaka on Sunday evening.

"Khaled Zia should be released within the next 48 hours," he said at a rally in front of the party's office in Naya Paltan, calling for the unconditional release of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and the transfer of her to a better medical facility abroad.

"Release Khaleda Zia quickly," he said, adding that "not only America but also the people of the country are giving you sanctions to hold elections under a caretaker government."

According to Mirza Fakhrul, the BNP chairperson suffers from various ailments, and doctors have warned her that her physical condition is not stable.

"In Bangladesh, there is no treatment for her." "Unless she is taken abroad, it may be difficult to save her," said the BNP leader.

Concerning the election, he claimed that when the Awami League realized it would not be able to win under the caretaker government, it canceled it in parliament.

Regarding the US visa restrictions policy, Fakhrul described it as "humiliating" for an independent sovereign country like Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Mirza claimed that bureaucrats are meeting in various locations, so the Awami League should be kept in power at all costs. Government officials involved in kidnapping, murder, and corruption are more desperate to keep the Awami League in power than the Awami League itself.
